He also earned his Bachelof of Arts, with cum laude honors, from the University of Wisconsin-Green. He graduated in 2005 after majoring in Communication Processes-Electronic Media and Political Science. During his time in law school, Mike Petersen co-wrote a book called a Legal Education Renaissance, which can still be purchased.

After graduating from law school, Michael Petersen began working at Robinson Law Firm in Appleton, Wisconsin. This law firm primarily practices in Northwest Wisconsin. Mike Petersen was a skilled advocate for his clients in Municipal Courts all over Wisconsin. 
Michael Petersen is a Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, native, having been born and raised in the town. In fact, for his entire life outside of his schooling, Mike Peterson has lived in Northeast Wisconsin. He met his wife in elementary school, began dating her in high school, and continues to live there with his wife and kids. He is also very involved in his church, Church of Peace-UCC. He served as the Chairperson of the Building to Serve Committee. As the Chair of this committee, he helped raise more than $900,000 in pledges toward new buildings for the church.
